Cultural Arts of Waco, a non-profit based in Waco, Texas, is raising final funds to complete the memorial to WWII Hero, Doris Miller. Three bronze relief images that tell his life story, and a bronze relief of the Navy Cross.

Doris Miller was born and raised in Waco and was the first African-American to be awarded the Navy Cross for his bravery during Pearl Harbor. Please join us in this important effort.

History

Cultural Arts of Waco was incorporated June 2, 2004. In the past 10 years we have expanded from a once-a-year festival into year round programming made available to the entire Waco community free of charge. Our values include: excellence, in arts and culture; pride, through programs our community can celebrate; education, through the transmission of knowledge and skill; integrity, by operating with clear values and sincerity; diversity, bridging a variety of peoples, arts and cultures; commitment, to the future through our nurturing of arts and people; and optimism, in our courage, energy, and hope in all we do.

We invite you to join us in shining a spotlight on the arts and our community. We want you to share in the moment of time where we celebrate ourselves, our work, and the art that brings us together! During this time, WCT is taking an “intermission” due to the public health situation. While we take this pause, we are experiencing a near total loss of ticket income. In order to be sure to bring you high quality plays and musicals when restrictions on gatherings are lifted, we hope you will take this opportunity to support the theatre—from a safe distance. Under the leadership of conductor Stephen Heyde, WSO has thrilled audiences with performances by the World’s top musicians, such as violinists Itzhak Perlman, Joshua Bell, Midori and Pinchas Zukerman, pianists Emanuel Ax and Andre Watts, cellist YoYo Ma, Soprano Renee Fleming, and Saxophonist Branford Marsalis.

You can see the impact of our work in our growing downtown cultural district, the recently installed sculpture zoo, the ARTprenticeship murals, this site, and much more.
